Social Organizations: Innovation Design Club

The all-inclusive HGSE experience is about opportunities beyond the classroom. We asked several students to share their experience with different social organizations. Amreen Poonawala, Sima Haddadin, Rachel Diaz, and Zohal Shah are in HGSE’s Technology, Innovation, and Education master’s program and share their experience as members of the Innovation Design Club.

Tell us about your organization.

The Innovation Design Club at HGSE aims to provide students a platform to learn about design principles and apply them in educational contexts. Through IDC, we explore the intersection of education, creativity and innovation.

Meet the IDC members!

What events or programming do you have planned for the year?

In the Fall semester, we delivered 7 events, which included: expert panels, design challenges, workshops, and socials. Topics ranged from edtech product management to entrepreneurship to instructional design. With support from our various partners including the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), the Technology, Innovation, and Education (TIE) Program, the Lemann Program on Creativity and Entrepreneurship (LPCE), MIT Sloan Education Club, and the Harvard Graduate Council (HGC), we successfully hosted 240+ attendees and 10+ industry guests

Future events will explore the intersection of AI and education, networking across graduate schools at Harvard, and workshops from industry leaders in UX design.

Why did you join this group?

We personally joined the group looking to make connections amongst our peers and to be involved in a student organization. We can’t tell you the relief we felt seeing familiar faces from IDC in classes and the pride we feel being a part of a student organization that looks to provide our peers with what they need, when they need it.

How is the online format of your organization different from the in-person format?

Our planning committee meets biweekly to discuss upcoming events and how we can work in teams to contribute to the overall mission of IDC. We really want to help people grow their skills in design and provide rich opportunities to network and connect not only with peers, but with people across Harvard. Though we’re not in-person, we’re interested in finding ways to build meaningful relationships in the virtual space.
