I was at the airport, on my way to Saint Louis for my best friend’s birthday. My parents had been nice enough to drop me off at the airport. I got through security, checked my phone and saw that I had an update on my application. I was right by the first gate when I opened it up, and immediately called my parents to fill them in! All the people in the gate area overheard and started clapping, and my parents drove back to the airport to give me a hug and congratulate me. I wound up going through security twice, which confused the TSA agents, but it was definitely worth it to enjoy that moment with them. Luckily I made my flight, and a kind Delta gate agent even upgraded me to Comfort+ to celebrate!

When I found out I was accepted to HGSE I was helping to move my grandparents into their new home. It had been an emotional day as they left the house they’d spent most of their lives in together and had worked incredibly hard to build to fit their growing family of 11. That day we were all rather nostalgic, the kids and grandkids in particular, but so excited for this new phase in my grandparents’ lives. I received the email surrounded by my loved ones which was the absolute best way to celebrate considering how supportive my grandparents have been throughout my education. My grandpa brought out my favorite beer for us all to celebrate but I was shaking so much I couldn’t even open it! My grandmother fondly reflects on that moment as a blessing their new space and good luck charm for times to come, and I couldn’t agree more.

I will never forget that when I found out I got accepted into HGSE I was binge-watching watching Gossip Girl (as one does). I saw the email and quickly logged in. When I saw the congratulations my jaw dropped and then I couldn’t stop laughing. After triple-checking to make sure it was correct and that it really said my name, I called my friends and family and went out to celebrate! It was such an exciting and surreal moment, and I am glad Netflix was there to experience it with me.
